Our Annual Juried Show Instructions


How to Enter the PhotoZone Juried Show for July 2024.

  • Bring work to The Emerald Art Center, 500 Main Street, Springfield on June 29 and June 30 - between 11 and 4 pm.

  • 1 - 2 framed prints per person. $15 for 1 or $25 for 2.

  • Application forms are filled out when photos are brought in.

  • All prints must be framed with hanging wire only, no tape and string or sawtooth hangers.

  • Frame size is limited to 36 inches in the long dimension.

  • The Juried Show Exhibit runs from July 2 - August 2.

  • The Opening Reception will be on Friday July 12 at The Emerald Art Center from 5 - 7:30 pm.

  • Some prizes will be available at the opening.

More Details

 1. The entrant or appointed party is responsible for delivery and recovery of their work to and from gallery.  

2. Unless marked ‘not for sale’ all work received will be considered for sale at the price set by the entrant. PhotoZone Gallery will retain 40% commission fee on pieces sold.

3. Work not accepted for exhibition must be picked up on July 2, 3, 5 or 6 - between 11 and 4 pm. 

4. Work accepted for exhibition will be hung and shown in the space through August 2.

5. After the show all exhibited work must be picked up on Saturday, August 3 between the hours of 11 and 4 pm. If you cannot pick up on this date, Please arrange for someone to retrieve your work on that day.

6. Jurying will be done by members of PhotoZone on Sunday evening, June 30. Entrants will be called with the results of jurying within a few days. Those entrants we cannot contact by telephone will be contacted by email with notification of jurying results.

7. The exhibition will run from July 2 - August 2.  Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 11:00 - 4:00.

8. An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Friday July 12 (Second Friday Art Walk) from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. Refreshments will be provided and exhibitors are encouraged to attend.

Below are some of the guidelines that our jurors take into consideration when judging, not necessarily in any order.

  • Presentation- framing, mounting, meeting entry requirements.

  • Impact- feeling one gets upon viewing an image for the first time.

  • Technical Excellence- the quality of the image itself as it is presented for viewing, such as focus, lighting, and color balance.

  • Lighting- effect of dark/bright on the image content

  • Composition- holds the viewer in the image and prompts the viewer to look where the creator intends.

  • Storytelling- the image’s ability to deliver a message, evoke the imagination, or express creative intent.
